By lowering the compression ratio with a thick metal head gasket benefit FI by allowing us to run more boost (say 10 psi on a GSR)? Would be safe for a stock bottom end? And finally, would the additional boost make up for the loss in compression (performance wise)?

yes and yes, i have a civic si d16z6 i am using a thicker head gasket
old new
6psi 10 psi
`pinging no pings
cr 9.2 to 1 cr 8.6 to 1
the lower comp allows more safe boost, lower comp better timing . mine is at 19 degrees with no btm ,j&s and most important no pinging

I'm in the middle of putting on some KYB AGX's and Eibach prokit springs... Taking a much needed break from the sweat. It's damn hot in the garage
Anyhow, kamaleon, can you post some numbers? Timeslips or dyno would be great. I'm thinking about doing something similar provided the results will be worth it.
Thanks

I think we all have to take into account that without cooling the charge somehow, pushing 10psi causes the blower to heat up way too much. I think it was Lithiasis that tried building his motor and running 12psi to show little gain at all, just more torque. This will make your car faster, but I think the money would be much better invested into a small shot of nos when you feel the need for the extra power instead of upping the boost. This shouldn't cause too many problems especially if you do the head gasket also. Just some things to think about. I remember reading that a normal 20or 30 shot was resulting in like 35-40 hp at the wheels. This is resulting from the cooling effect of the nos and also from the benefits of running nitrous.

I can verify the 25 shot theory from track experience. I normally pick up .3-4 tenths when on the juice. My best time this year on 14in slicks has been 13.993@99mph(1.8 60's). As long as the fuel is there you should have no problem. This with stock 9.2 compression and timing set a 8 deg. I have a MSD 6 BTM...set at 0 deg retard.

Kameleon - 19 degrees advanced with no BTM or J&S!!!! No pinging, huh... Sounds like a damn good set up. I'm running 14 BTDC with my BTM at like 3/4 (6psi currently, but got the 8 psi pulley going in ASAP).
If I can benefit from the lowered CR and run more boost - that kicks ass, but if I go to all the troublt of removing the head I would want to improve on the cams at the same time, and since nobody's responed to my other post on cams for the VTEC head, I'll ask you guys.
Are there any aftermarket cams for SC'd GSR's that produce better performance?

No proven cams as of yet... 1fstGSR is going to try Type "R" cams in his Blackbird... we will see. Many people have claimed a slight power increase by using the Type "R" Exhaust cam only.
